Dining

No trip to France is complete without indulging in its wonderful food and wine. The area boasts many fine restaurants and we are pleased to make recommendations and reservations for you over a glass of wine when you arrive. On Sunday evenings many of our guests choose to join us for a table d’hotes hosted dinner – these evenings have become very popular with our regular guests. Please ask at time of booking.

Antique Lovers

If your passion is for antiques we can plot a route for you around some interesting shops in the region. There are a number of antique fairs in and around Amiens throughout the year and throughout the summer many of the surrounding villages have their popular bric-a-brac sales.

Champagne

Why not take the opportunity to visit the Champagne region (a comfortable 1.5 hours drive through the lovely country side of Picardy and the Somme) and tour the impressive production houses and cellars of famous names such as Pommery and Moet. We can even guide you to a couple of our favourite small independent producers to sample or buy champagne that you’ll not be able to find anywhere else.

The Coast

The sandy coastline of the Baie de Somme is a pleasant 1 hours drive away and home to lovely fishing towns such as St. Valery sur Somme with its lovely boardwark with turn of the century villas and the fishing town of Le Crotoy. Nearby the beautiful bird sanctuary ‘Le Marquenterre’ also boasts long expanses of wide sandy beaches.

Paris & Lille

The centres of Paris and Lille are only an hour away by train making them easy day trips for exploring, shopping and sight seeing with the benefit of returning to Le Macassar for a relaxing and peaceful evening.

War Memorial

Le Macassar is located in the heart of the “circuit du souvenir” World War 1 memorial area in the Somme, Picardy. Impressive and often beautiful monuments dedicated to the memories of the ANZAC soldiers from Australia near Villers Bretonneux and New Zealand in Longueval, Great Britain at Thiepval, Canada at Vimy Ridge, and South Africa in Delville Wood, are all within very close proximity as well as some fascinating museums and exhibitions. We are happy to assist in plotting appropriate routes for guests or, if you prefer, we can recommend skilled English speaking guides to accompany you on your exploration and understanding of this poignant area.
